Located just outside of Toledo, Ohio in Lucas County, the Washington Township Fire Department provides EMS and Fire protection to an area located along the Ottawa River, Lake Erie, I-75, and the Michigan border. WTFD proudly employs both pay per call and pay per shift EMT, Paramedic, and Fire personnel trained in EMS, Patient Transport, Fire Suppression, Vehicle Extrication, Hazmat, Water, and Ice Rescue. Providing mutual aid to communities surrounding our township in both Ohio and Michigan, along with increased calls for help, WTFD has responded to a record number of calls in each of the years past, with 500 calls expected this year alone.
History
Fire protection in Washington Township was first organized in 1919 with a bucket brigade in the Trilby area. Although much of Washington Township has disappeared through annexation, we continue over 80 years of tradition of service to our community shown to us by our brother firefighters from the Point Place, Trilby, Alexis and Shoreland Volunteer Fire Departments. We honor their memory and hope that they would be proud of what the department has to offer today.
